A Good Day to Crochet (and Frosty’s Demise)

This is what it looked like when we woke up on Saturday morning.

By the time I had brewed our coffee, this was happening.

 

I knew that our short lived snow holiday was coming to an abrupt end. This is ALABAMA, after all.

And by lunch time, Frosty had keeled over.

This was the scene as my sweet daughter awoke from her afternoon nap.

My children were less than happy about the loss of their beloved friend.

I made these brownies in an effort to cheer them. It was a sad day.

But, it was a good day for crochet.

I decided to dig out this UFO that had been long neglected.

I crocheted all afternoon and into the night. It felt good. And when I finish, I can move on to this. It’s good motivation for me!

Learning to Knit

I stumbled upon the best knitting tutorial ever... it is a series of videos done by the Stitch Diva that shows EXTREMELY INDEPTH instructions and tips. I've been an avid crocheter for years, but never learned to knit. Mainly because I was never taught to knit - my grandmother taught me to crochet, but she never knit.

Sure, I've thought about learning to knit many times. But the instuctions in knitting books seemed a bit complicated, and quite frankly, made little sense to me. I am so glad I found this website. I literally learned to knit in under 30 minutes. REALLY.

I'm not an expert... yet. But with a little practice, I should be knitting well within the week. It's a simple process. And since I already crochet, the movements come quite naturally. Go ahead... give it a try:

It's a very simple and easy to knit scarf. I'm loving it and I can hardly believe how easily it is coming together. I will post a photo of the project soon.

Vertical Stripe Afghan WIP

Oh, I love these colors! This is an afghan I started last week using this tutorial from Bella Dia. It is an amazingly simple pattern that is fun and easy. It uses only 3 stitches - chain, single crochets, and double crochets. I made mine using a chain of 300 instead of the suggested 250 because I thought it looked a little short. Now, I wish I'd stuck with the shorter chain - it takes me about 30 min. to do a single row - and it looks a little long. Ha! It's all good, though. I'm still excited about these colors. And it's better to have a blanket that's too big rather than too small, right? You really should give this pattern a try.

This blanket is for my daughter... my son wants to know when I'll make him one. Looks like I'll be crocheting for a while! It's a good thing I found a pattern I like. Happy crocheting!
